A council tax phone scam is currently taking place in our area.

Elderly residents are being called by someone claiming to work for Tandridge District Council or the Valuation Office. They are offering the resident a reduced council tax band and a refund if they pay a £65 fee. They are then asked to pay by credit card. Unfortunately we are aware of at least one resident who has paid the fee.

Tandridge District Council will never contact residents to ask for credit card, bank or other personal details. We always ask residents to call 01883 722000 to speak to us so they can be sure they are talking to council officers.

If you know of anyone who is contacted, please ask them to call Consumer Direct 03454 040506, visit www.adviceguide.org.uk, or call Surrey Police on 101.

Please forward this e-mail on, to make as many people as possible aware of this.
