The Caterham, Chaldon and Whyteleafe Neighbourhood Plan has been published today by Tandridge District Council and can be viewed online at www.tandridge.gov.uk/CCWnp. This marks the start of a six week consultation, which finishes at 5pm, on Monday 2 September 2019.
The plan has been drawn up by a Steering Group representing Caterham Hill, Caterham Valley, Chaldon and Whyteleafe Parish Councils. It sets out what the area could look like in the future, reflecting what the local community would like to see in their locality.
Under Neighbourhood Planning Regulations, the plan was submitted to Tandridge District Council by the Parish Councils and the District Council is now consulting on it, before sending it to an external, independent examiner for consideration. If approved the plan would go to a public vote (a referendum) next year.
The plan will influence the way the four parishes will develop over the coming years and be used in assessing planning applications. It sets out ways to:
Make the best use of allocated sites and brownfield land for future development.
Encourage housing which meets local needs.
Show how new development can protect and enhance the character of the area.
Protect green spaces, key views and the Green Belt.
Support businesses, retail centres and community facilities.
Improve the options for walking, cycling and travelling by bus.
